About Weill Cornell Neurology

The Department of Neurology is part of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, one of the world's leading academic medical centers. The Department has been led by some of the most notable figures in academic neurology of the 20th century, including R. Foster Kennedy, Harold Wolff, and Fred Plum. Today we are consistently ranked among the nation's best providers of neurology care.

We provide care based on the latest advances in medicine for the full range of neurological diseases and disorders, including:

Alzheimer's Disease and Other Memory Disorders
Sleep Disorders
Multiple Sclerosis
Neuromuscular Diseases
Neuropsychological Disorders
Parkinson's Disease and Other Movement Disorders
Stroke and Critical Care

To achieve the most accurate diagnosis — the most essential component of care — we offer neuropsychological testing, neurophysiologic testing, neurovascular ultrasound, and sleep studies. Patients also have access to clinical trials assessing promising new treatments.

Medical students, residents, and fellows benefit from highly regarded educational programs that prepare them for a career in neurology, with subspecialty training available. The Department has a remarkable record of training leaders in academic neurology. Twenty-five current and former Chairs of Neurology in the United States trained at Weill Cornell Medical College.

That might sound like it should be a given, but in the fast-paced world of health care today, it is truly something special. It starts from the moment you call us, when your inquiry is addressed by one of our knowledgeable staff members -- not an answering service.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell is known around the world as one of the leading academic medical centers, and is consistently ranked among the nation's best providers of neurology care. What you'll also find when you visit us is that we provide that care in a compassionate, personal setting -- one where our attending physicians see patients and perform examinations themselves. We take the time needed to listen carefully to each patient's concerns and to conduct a thorough assessment of the patient's health, taking the whole person into account. We understand how important this is, because making an accurate diagnosis of a patient's condition is the first and most vital step in providing effective care.

Our neurologists are experts in the full range of neurologic disorders, treating the most common ones as well as those that are rare. We customize a plan of care for each patient and assemble a team of seasoned professionals to provide that care. Moreover, as part of a large medical center, patients can have all of their other medical needs addressed in the same hospital, with the same level of expertise. Our secure electronic medical record system enables all of a patient's doctors at Weill Cornell to see what care has been given and enhances optimal communication.

As an academic medical center, our team members are leading and participating in basic science and clinical research to advance the field of neurology and improve care. Patients may be offered opportunities to participate in clinical trials of promising new therapies, which not only enable them to avail themselves of the latest approaches, but may lead to better care for patients everywhere. We are also leaders in educating the neurology professionals of the future through our educational programs for medical students, residents, and fellows, along with continuing medical education courses for practicing professionals.

We understand that neurological disorders affect not just the patient, but his or her family as well, especially when the disorder is chronic. So we offer supportive services, in addition to medical care, to help families navigate life with a loved one who has a neurological condition.

I invite you to visit the pages of our Web site to see what we have to offer. We welcome you to visit us to learn what we can do for you.
