Expert Evalution

The management of chronic headaches begins with a physical and neurological examination, including a thorough assessment of the patient's medical history and headache characteristics. Our doctors ask patients to complete a headache diary to document their frequency, the time(s) of the day or month when they occur, their severity, and headache triggers (such as alcohol, certain foods, or menstruation).  Patients may also undergo neuropsychological testing through our Neuropsychology Service.

Patients who need medical imaging are referred to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell's neuroimaging program for scans such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT scanning), or functional brain imaging (which can show changes in blood flow that occur during a migraine). Some patients may undergo analysis of the spinal fluid.
